Porosity

A porous coating loses its protection capacity. The porosimeters make it possible to detect coatings and defective areas. This makes it possible to avoid the appearance of rust.

PD130 Pinhole / Holiday detector -

Buckleys Pinhole / Holiday detectors enable inspectors to check quickly and effectively for porosity, pinholes and other faults in a wide range of non-conductive coatings and linings. Buckleys' units have been extensively used for many years in the petro-chemical, aerospace, pipeline construction and plastic fabrication industries.

The PD130 has been specially designed to incorporate new technology and is suitable for checking coating thicknesses of between 16 microns to 14.4 mm.

If additional electrodes and accessories are required, the PD130 can be supplied as a complete kit (see datasheet PD30C). Special kits are available for testing pipeline coatings (see datasheet PD30P) and for checking porosity in bridge deck and roofing membranes (see datasheet PD30R).

BASIC KIT (ref. PD30) comprises :
PD130 unit with battery charger and 4 x rechargeable batteries, power pack, shoulder bag, test probe handle, coiled interconnecting lead, 5 m earth lead, steel drum brush and test voltage calculator. A calibration certificate is included in the comprehensive instruction manual.

COMPLETE KIT (ref. PD30C) includes all elements as the basic kit plus :
pointed probe, 2 x 460 mm extension rods, electrode shoe, screwdriver, 250 mm phosphor bronze brush electrode. All contained in a robust, high visibility, transit case.

The Buckleys PD 130 Pipeline Test Kit has been specially created to enable inspectors to quickly check non-conductive pipe coatings or linings for porosity, pinholes and other faults. It is suitable for checking coating thicknesses of between 16 microns to 14.4mm and contains all the necessary equipment to perform basic tests.

Additional Phosphor Bronze electrodes, either straight or curved, can be supplied for use with the kit. Alternatively, Rolling Spring Electrodes can provide an effective means of testing external pipe coatings and are available in most sizes to suit.

Coatings on smaller pipes (less than 100mm/4 inches) can be tested by using a silicone rubber electrode (with suitable size hole) through which the pipe can be passed.

PD30R Roofing / Bridge Deck Test Kit -

The Buckleys PD130 Roofing/Bridge Deck Test Kit has been specifically created to enable inspectors to quickly effectively check a roof or Bridge Deck for pinholes and porosity.

The PD130 will test non-conductive membranes from 16 microns to 14,4 mm. The kit contains all the equipment needed to perform the tests and includes a 50 m earth extension lead and a 450 mm (18") phosphor bronze electrode, suitable for most applications.

For ease of transporting, especially on site, the Test Kit is supplied in a high visibility carrying case which securely holds the unit and all of the accessories. Batteries can be charged out of the unit by mains or from a car lighter socket or good quality D cells can be used.

ROOFING/BRIDGE DECK TEST KIT (ref. PD30R) comprises :

Calibration meter D8

The Buckleys Calibration Meter offers a quick, accurate and cost effective method of checking the calibration state of high voltage DC equipment.

It has been primarily designed for use with the Buckleys’ PD130 and PHD range of Pinhole/Holiday Detectors but can also be used to ensure that other high voltage equipment is within specified tolerances.

Powered by 4 x 1.5v AA batteries (supplied), the meter has a measurement range of 0-40kV (DC only) in two ranges with an accuracy of +/- 1%.An earth lead and two high voltage leads are included in the kit ensuring the unit is ready for use with all models in the Buckleys’ PD, PHD & DCCT ranges.

BASIC KIT (ref. D8) comprises :

Low Voltage Pinhole Detector LVPD1

The Buckleys LVPD utilises the wet sponge and provides a quick and cost effective method of non-destructively testing dielectric coatings on conductive substrates up to 500µm.

The LVPD offers six preset ranges; five are factory set and one is user defined. The LVPD features a two line eight character LCD which displays the test voltage and DC leakage current in micro-amps. The LCD also displays the battery status, the preset currently in use and the user selectable options.

The LVPD features a power up self test which verifies the unit is functioning correctly therefore increasing operator confidence in test results. The LVPD features closed loop circuitry that ensures excellent test voltage regulation throughout the complete sensitivity range.

The LVPD1 kit includes the Low Voltage Pinhole Detector, leads, wet sponge wand with extension rod, batteries, 30ml of wetting agent and operating instructions.

DCCT Porosity & Cable Testers C1 - C3

DCCT mains powered testers are particularly suitable for the automatic testing of porosity in non-conductive coatings. Incorporating a re-settable high speed counter, they are ideal for use within production processes. The units are used extensively in the manufacturing industry for checking cables, plastic sheets, battery cases, moulded components and coatings on steel pipes.

A range of three DCCT testers is available with output voltage ranges of 2-15kV (ref: C1), 4-30kV (ref: C2) and 5-40kV (ref: C3). They are all supplied with a 2m high voltage lead and a 5m earth lead. A calibration certificate is included in the comprehensive operating manual.

All models can be adapted for manual testing of components by the addition of a test probe handle (as illustrated) onto which a suitable electrode (not supplied) can be attached.

PST100 Spark Tester - Basic kit T50

The PST 100 Spark Tester provides a quick and cost effective method of inspection on thick coatings and linings. Coating thicknesses of between 3 and 30mm can be tested.

It can be widely used for testing butt-welded and overlap joints in the plastics & rubber, petro-chemical and pipeline construction industries.

A flexible probe is included with the unit but additional insulated extension rods and electrodes can be supplied, if required, for specific applications. However, to ensure the stability of the output voltage, large electrodes should not be used. The recommended maximum size is 150mm.

A specially created accessory kit is available which includes an executive-style carrying case and a range of electrodes suitable for use with the PST Spark tester.

PST100 Spark Tester - Complete kit T51

The PST-100 Spark Tester provides a quick and cost effective method of inspection on thick coatings and linings. Coating thicknesses of 3 mm to 30 mm can be tested.

It is widely used for testing butt-welded and overlap joints in the plastics & rubber, petro-chemical and pipeline construction industries.

The PST Accessory Kit has been specially created to offer a complete testing solution for most applications.

Other sizes and types of electrodes can be supplied, if required, for specific requirements. However, to ensure the stability of the output voltage, large electrodes should not be used.

STAC100 Spark Tester T7

The ST-AC 100 Spark Tester provides a quick and effective means of inspection on thicker coatings and linings. It is particularly useful for checking butt-welded and overlap joints on plastic sheets etc.

It can detect flaws and defects in membrane thicknesses of up to 30mm and is extensively used in the petro chemical, pipeline construction, plastic and rubber manufacturing industries.

The Spark Tester is fully CE approved and complies with all current relevant European Directives. It is supplied with a 150mm flexible probe which is suitable for most uses.

Insulated extension rods, electrodes and accessories are available for specific applications. However, to ensure stability of the output voltage, large electrodes should not be used. The maximum recommended size is 150mm for all High Frequency equipment.

Permeability cup Payne

Simple and reliable method to measure the permeability of a paint or varnish film to water vapour. The ring and flange of the cup are designed to give a surface exposure of 10 cm² and 25 cm².
